The
Carnation City Players was established by several theater minded
persons from Mahoning, Columbiana and Stark counties in 1960 and was
first known as the Tri-County Players.
"Honk"
Their first production
"The Man Who Came To Dinner" was presented at the Strand
Theatre in Sebring, as were their next three productions in 1961 and
1962. As many Alliance persons became involved in the group, the troupe
moved its productions to the Rockhill Elementary School in Alliance.
In 1972, they changed their name to the Carnation City Players
to emphasize their place in the cultural resources of the Alliance
"The
Curious Savage"
Community.
The City of Alliance presented the troupe with the opportunity to
move into a renovated space at the old firehouse on E. Market Street
in downtown Alliance. The stage and lobby of the newly finished
Firehouse Theater were completed by 1979 and the ribbon cutting
ceremony took place with the production, "Mame".
By 2008, the group had presented more than 183 full-length plays
and musicals along with countless shorter presentations around the
Alliance area. The Carnation City Players strive to provide
entertainment and education in the theatre besides developing the
talent of everyone involved intheir productions. Carnation City
Players is governed by an elected Board
of Trustees.
